One exhibit is a 20-foot-long tile replica of a Persian rug. The pool, adjoining bathhouse, fountains and walkways throughout the 13 acre beach front grounds are all decorated with these renowned Malibu ceramic tiles. Malibu is also home to the original J. Paul Getty Museum located at 17985 Pacific Coast Hwy. Since the completion of the new The Getty Center Located at 1200 Getty Center Drive Los Angeles, CA 90049 Phone: (310) 440-7300, the old J. Paul Getty Museum is now known as the J. Paul Getty Villa. When re-opened the J. Paul Getty Villa, after the extensive remodeling is complete, will be home to an extensive permanent collection of Greek and Roman antiquities housed in a re-created 1st-century AD Roman country villa with interior and exterior gardens. Surfrider Beach next to the Malibu Pier (23200 PCH), has been host to movie stars such as Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello, but this beach is for serious surfers who can appreciate a perfect wave.
Public Elementary Schools Public High School Malibu is the home of PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY (1937) (Relocated to Malibu in 1971) (2,500 students) 24255 Pacific Coast Highway (Zip 90263). school of law as well as college of arts, sciences and letters, cultural arts center and Weisman Museum of Art located on 830-acre campus. Malibu Lagoon Best Wildlife: Malibu Lagoon is part of the 169 acre state park. It is a good place for bird watching, especially migratory models that stop to rest here in the spring and fall en route to and from Alaska and Central America. The brackish wetlands are fed by Malibu Creek, which often is only a trickle, but enough to support a small fishery and an ecosystem of tiny creatures that attract hungry birds. A little west of the park and point are the million dollar homes of celebrities behind the gates of Malibu Colony. The residential enclave was started in 1928 as a hideaway for film stars. The Chumash Indians were the first residents of the Malibu area. Malibu Canyon was the center of the Chumash Native American life for centuries. Malibu Potteries produced tiles between 1926 and 1932. Los Angeles City Hall has 23 murals made with Malibu Potteries tiles. Early residents included Gary Cooper, Bing Crosby, Clara Bow, Jack Warner, Ronald Colman and Gloria Swanson.
